On the 77th Independence Day, the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is set to bestow the gift of tap water to around nine crore villagers, as part of the Har Ghar Nal se Jal Yojana under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Commencing on this day, over 1.5 crore rural households will be connected to tap water supply.
This marks a significant milestone, as more than half of the state’s rural families will receive this momentous gift on Independence Day.
Ensuring Swift Progress in Tap Connection Distribution
Anurag Srivastava, the Principal Secretary of the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department, has recently reviewed the preparations for providing tap connections to 1.5 crore rural families in UP by August 15.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the current pace of tap connection distribution.
He also encouraged organizations working within villages to celebrate Independence Day alongside the families benefiting from the tap connections.
Exponential Growth in Tap Water Access
At the launch of the Jal Jeevan Mission on August 15, 2019, merely 1.97 percent of rural households in UP had access to tap water.
However, through rapid efforts over the past four years, the Yogi government has managed to provide tap water to an impressive 56.83 percent of rural families within the state.
Uttar Pradesh leads the nation in daily tap connection provision, delivering tap supply to over 40,000 homes each day through the Har Ghar Jal Yojana.
The scheme’s target is to provide tap water to more than 2 crore 62 lakh families in UP by the year 2024.
