Govt announces to Start Digi Yatra Service in six Airports including Mumbai and Kochi

The government has announced an expansion of the Digi Yatra program, set to commence on Friday, August 12, 2023.

This initiative, which enables hassle-free travel using face recognition technology, will now be available at six additional airports, including major hubs like Mumbai and Kochi.

Initially launched on December 1, 2022, at airports in Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru, Digi Yatra is currently operational at seven airports nationwide.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued an official statement regarding this development.

Significant Usage Milestone Reached

The popularity of Digi Yatra is evident as a significant number of passengers have embraced the service.

Up to August 10, a remarkable 3.46 million passengers, equivalent to around 3 million 46 thousand passengers, have already taken advantage of the Digi Yatra facility.

The service is currently accessible at airports in Vijayawada, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. Emphasizing passenger privacy, the system encrypts and exclusively shares passenger data between the traveler and the departing airport.

This information is deleted from airport systems within 24 hours after the flight’s departure.

What is Digi Yatra?

Digi Yatra introduces an innovative face recognition system, revolutionizing contactless travel at airports.

Passengers can effortlessly navigate various checkpoints without physical contact, utilizing their facial features.

This seamless process takes under three seconds at each checkpoint.

Within this framework, a passenger’s facial recognition serves as their identification, vaccination proof, and boarding pass.
