Netflix has unveiled a fresh application now accessible on the Apple App Store, enabling users to dive into gaming on their televisions.
The recently introduced ‘Netflix Game Controller’ app connects seamlessly to your TV, allowing you to relish an array of games on Netflix using your smartphone or other mobile devices.
The exciting news offers a glimpse into this upcoming feature, marked as ‘Coming soon to Netflix.’
Awaiting Game Lineup
While the specific games heading to Netflix’s big screen remain undisclosed, the company’s Vice President of gaming, Mike Verdu, had previously mentioned plans for a cloud gaming experience in an October report by TechCrunch.
Netflix is set to establish a gaming studio in Southern California, led by Chacko Soni, former executive producer of Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch.
Netflix’s Unique Position
Verdu emphasized that Netflix doesn’t view itself as a rival to gaming giants like PlayStation or Xbox.
Leanne Loombe, VP of External Games at Netflix, further elaborated in May on the company’s cloud gaming strategy.
She stated, “We envision cloud gaming enabling our members to access games across any screen. Our goal is for members to play games on any Netflix-compatible device.”
Progressive Developments
Earlier this year in March, news circulated about Netflix’s work on an iPhone-centric game controller.
Additionally, in July, the streaming powerhouse introduced ‘My Netflix,’ a personalized tab catering to Android and iOS users.
This feature serves as a convenient hub, offering tailored shortcuts to assist users in selecting their preferred content.
