From August 5, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has introduced a significant change to the passport application process for international travel.
Now, applicants can easily obtain a new passport by using DigiLocker, a government platform.
Simple Steps for Passport Application with DigiLocker
Applicants seeking a new passport can now upload necessary documents on the government platform DigiLocker.
Once uploaded, the passport application can be submitted online through the official website www.passportindia.gov.in.
No Need for Physical Documents with DigiLocker
With the integration of DigiLocker, applicants no longer need to carry original physical copies of documents during the application process.
This update streamlines the process and makes it faster.
What is DigiLocker?
DigiLocker, a digital wallet service provided by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, offers a secure way to store various government documents digitally.
Users can keep important documents like driver’s license, vehicle registration certificate, Aadhaar, ration card, academic mark sheet, and more.
DigiLocker Now Accepts Aadhaar Documents for Online Application
The Ministry now permits the use of Aadhaar documents through DigiLocker for online passport application submission.
This allows applicants to secure and access vital official documents such as Education Certificate, Birth Certificate, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Passport, and Voter ID Card, making the entire process even faster and more convenient.
Digital Vehicle Documents Also Accepted
Apart from passport-related documents, DigiLocker has also been used to store vehicle documents.
If your vehicle is stopped for inspection by traffic police, you can avoid physical checks by showing your digital vehicle documents in DigiLocker.
Ensure you save your vehicle documents exclusively in DigiLocker for them to be considered valid.
