Indian Railways, catering to the travel needs of millions of passengers daily, has implemented a new rule that allows travelers to easily transfer their confirmed train tickets to family members.
This development comes as a relief to those facing ticket shortages or seeking flexibility in their travel plans.
However, certain terms and conditions set by the Railways must be adhered to in order to avail of this facility.
Eligibility and Rules for Ticket Transfer
According to Indian Railways, confirmed tickets can be transferred only to immediate family members, including mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, and wife.
This implies that close friends or relatives outside of the immediate family cannot utilize the transferred ticket.
Simple Process for Ticket Transfer
The procedure for transferring a confirmed train ticket is straightforward. Passengers need to visit the reservation counter and obtain a printout of the confirmed ticket.
They must provide the name of the family member to whom they wish to transfer the ticket.
The family member should carry a valid ID card, such as an Aadhaar card or Voter ID card, and the passenger needs to submit an application along with the ticket.
Both the passenger’s ID and a copy of the ticket must be submitted to the Chief Reservation Supervisor at the ticket counter.
After verification, the ticket will be transferred to the name of the designated family member, who can then travel using the ticket.
It is important to note that ticket transfers to friends or relatives outside of the immediate family are not permitted.
Advance Notice of 24 Hours Required
When transferring train tickets, passengers must plan ahead and provide advance notice. The ticket transfer process begins 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time of the train.
Therefore, individuals interested in transferring their tickets should approach the ticket counter at least 24 hours in advance to apply for the transfer.
Requests for ticket transfers made within a timeframe of less than 24 hours will not be processed.
By introducing this new rule, Indian Railways aims to provide passengers with increased flexibility and convenience while traveling by train.
It is advised for passengers to familiarize themselves with the specific terms and conditions associated with ticket transfers to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience.
