New Features and Camera Upgrades are coming to iPhone 15 Models

New Delhi :

The much-anticipated iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, set to debut as successors to the iPhone 14 lineup later this year, are rumored to come equipped with a significant camera upgrade.

Reports suggest that these new models will sport a 48-megapixel rear camera, replacing the existing 12-megapixel shooter,

resulting in improved image quality by capturing more light.

Sony’s Stacked CMOS Image Sensor (CIS)

Renowned TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, in a recent blog post, revealed that Apple is adopting Sony’s stacked CMOS image sensor technology for the higher-resolution camera in the iPhone 15 series.

This cutting-edge sensor,

previously featured in the iPhone 14 Pro lineup, is now poised to enhance the photography capabilities of the more affordable iPhone models.

Earlier this year, Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu had foreseen the inclusion of an upgraded 48-megapixel camera in Apple’s forthcoming smartphones.

However, the production of these stacked sensors faced yield challenges, leading to concerns about potential delays in the iPhone 15 series’ launch.

Fortunately, Kuo’s latest update indicates that Sony has surged production of the CIS by 100-120 percent to meet Apple’s demand, thereby avoiding any production bottlenecks.

This move, however, has had a ripple effect on the supply of CIS for high-end Android smartphones, affecting manufacturers in the industry.

Impact on Android Handset Manufacturers

As a consequence of Sony’s increased CIS production for Apple, Android handset manufacturers, especially Chinese brands, are confronted with a need to explore alternative suppliers of high-end CIS solutions. Companies like Will Semi and Smartsens are likely to see a surge in demand as Android manufacturers seek reliable camera sensors for their flagship smartphones.

The Journey Towards iPhone 15

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, launched last year, sported a dual rear camera setup with two 12-megapixel cameras.

In contrast, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max featured an upgraded primary camera capable of capturing 48-megapixel ProRAW photos and delivering superior photo quality through enhanced light-capturing capabilities.

While the iPhone 15 series is much-anticipated, Apple is yet to make an official announcement regarding its launch plans.

As enthusiasts eagerly await more details, the inclusion of a 48-megapixel camera on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus certainly adds to the excitement and expectations surrounding these upcoming devices.
