Traffic Challans: Vehicles to be Seized from Home for Unpaid Traffic Challans

The Madhya Pradesh government has introduced a unique approach to collect unpaid traffic fines.

For individuals who have not yet paid their traffic challans, the government will seize their vehicles from their homes.

This measure aims to ensure strict adherence to traffic rules and promote road safety to prevent accidents.

The government is specifically targeting minors who are challaned for driving vehicles without a license.

A list of individuals with pending challans is being prepared, and the government plans to take strict action against them starting next month.

To enforce this initiative, the ADG of the Police Training and Research Institute has issued instructions to the Superintendents of Police across various districts, including Bhopal and Indore.

According to traffic rules, vehicles belonging to individuals who disregard the rules can be confiscated from their homes.

When drivers are caught violating traffic rules but fail to pay the fine on the spot, they are given the option to deposit the amount later by making a challan. However, those who neglect to make the payment will face vehicle seizure.

Gwalior, a city in Madhya Pradesh, has shown the highest fine recovery rate in the state. From September 30, 2020, to June 9, 2023, Gwalior has collected fines totaling over Rs 5 crore from 111,048 challans.

It is important for motorists to abide by traffic rules and promptly pay any fines imposed to ensure road safety and avoid the seizure of their vehicles.
