Air India has announced that it will refund the entire fare to passengers affected by the diversion and delay of the Delhi-San Francisco flight on June 6.
The Chief Customer Experience and Ground Handling Officer of Air India, Rajesh Dogra, informed passengers who reached their destination after 56 hours that their fare would be fully refunded.
Additionally, they will receive a voucher for future travel on Air India.
The flight, AI 173, carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew members, was diverted to Magadan port in Russia due to an air fault in one of its engines.
Air India arranged a ferry flight from Mumbai to Magadan to transport the stranded passengers and crew members to San Francisco. The passengers eventually reached their destination on June 8.
Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the technical glitch and apologized for the delay to the customers.
The decision to land the aircraft in Magadan was made as a precautionary measure after the pilots received an indication of low oil pressure in one engine.
