Indian Railways Announces Up to 75% Discount on Train Tickets for Select Passengers
Indian Railways, renowned as Asia’s largest rail network and the second largest globally, continues to serve millions of passengers daily with its expansive fleet of over 70,000 passenger coaches and 11,000 locomotives.
With a staggering workforce of over 1.4 million individuals, the Indian Railways has cemented its position as one of the largest employers worldwide.
In addition to its extensive reach, the Indian Railways also offers ticket concessions to various categories of passengers, including award winners, unemployed youth, students, army personnel, individuals with disabilities, escorts, tourist guides, patients, women, and doctors.
However, the discount previously available exclusively to senior citizens was temporarily discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Concession for Differently Abled Individuals
Indian Railways has introduced a concession specifically designed to benefit differently abled individuals.
This concession provides a significant fare reduction ranging from 25% to 75% for four categories of disabled persons, namely Orthopedically Handicapped/Paraplegic individuals, Blind individuals, Mentally challenged individuals, and Deaf and Dumb individuals.
These discounted fares are applicable to both Sleeper and AC classes.
How to Avail the Railway Ticket Fare Discount
To benefit from the concession, passengers can approach the station reservation center and submit the required documents directly at the ticket booking offices.
Additionally, individuals seeking the concession should contact the designated commercial officers of the respective Railway Zone, Division, or Zonal Railway Headquarters.
