ONDC receives over 10,000 Daily orders in India (See Details)

Recently, the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), which is backed by the government, has achieved more than 10,000 orders per day.

How Did This Happen?

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has surpassed 10,000 daily orders, attributed to the implementation of early discounts and the discovery of a more affordable food delivery system.

A representative of the network confirmed that “In the past few days, ONDC has enabled over 10,000 daily transactions for retail products and over 33,000 daily rides.”

The system has been able to sustain over 10,000 daily orders since April 29, which marks precisely one year since its first successful test order.

ONDC became available to users in September 2022 when it went live in beta mode.

Presently, ONDC is accessible in 240 Indian cities, with eight cities having more than three sellers in 70% of pin codes.

The platform offers services in various categories such as grocery, food delivery, beauty and personal care, fashion, electronics, and mobility, with more than 35,000 merchants.

There are currently 46 network participants, including Dunzo, Delhivery, boAt, ITC Meesho, Paytm, and PhonePe’s Pincode, while roughly 450 participants are in the process of integrating, as per ONDC.

A Big Blow To Rivals

In recent days, screenshots of comparisons between the prices of food and beverage items on food delivery giants Zomato and Swiggy to ONDC have been circulating on social media.

After comparing prices, it was discovered that the same food item was the cheapest to order off ONDC via the Paytm app, even with all applicable, non-membership discounts on the Zomato and Swiggy apps.

ONDC is presently offering multiple initial discounts to stimulate activity on the platform.

Additionally, the platform is not charging delivery or convenience fees to keep costs low.

Huge Potential In Future

Customers can place an order on ONDC through the Paytm app, with the transaction backend being powered by Zomato’s subsidiary, Magicpin, which is a participant in ONDC’s buyer and seller network.

Reliance-backed Dunzo handles the delivery aspect of the order in conjunction with Magicpin.

Magicpin, a discovery platform for dining out and shopping, reports that it is presently fulfilling over 10,000 orders per day on the ONDC network, using its seller portal as well as other seller portals like PhonePe’s Pincode, Meesho, and Paytm.

Anshoo Sharma, the CEO and co-founder of Magicpin, stated that in just two weeks, the platform went from fewer than 100 orders daily to over 1,000, and then to over 10,000 orders per day in the following two weeks.

This was an increase of ten times from the prior landmark and resulted in over 300,000 orders monthly, which is now benefiting the retailers.

In the last six months, Union Minister Piyush Goyal has encouraged all e-commerce businesses, whether local, national, or global, to join the ONDC bandwagon.

He remarked at an ONDC event in April that “we’re still at levels where I can see a journey of 100-1,000x growth in the next few months.”
