New Delhi: On Wednesday, Zoom Video Communications (ZVC), a web conference company, announced that it had obtained a pan-India telecom license which would allow it to provide telephone services to its enterprise customers.
Previously, the US-based company had been providing its clients with voice and video conference services through its website and application.
According to a statement released by the company, ZVC India, the parent company of Zoom Video Communications, Inc., has been granted the Unified License with Access (pan-India), NLD (National Long Distance), and ILD (International Long Distance) by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
The acquisition of these licenses means that the company will now be able to provide its cloud-based private branch exchange (PBX) service, known as ‘Zoom Phone,’ to multinational corporations (MNCs) and businesses operating in India.
Sameer Raje, the General Manager and Head of India and SAARC Region at ZVC, has stated that the introduction of Zoom Phone in India will enable businesses and MNCs to facilitate flexible work environments, enhance collaboration among employees, and improve customer experiences.
The cloud-based PBX service functions as a local telephone exchange for enterprises, assisting them in managing their conference call services.
Raje remarked that this significant achievement is indicative of the company’s unwavering focus on India, a market that holds strategic importance for Zoom.
The company remains committed to delivering novel and innovative collaboration solutions to users in India.
According to the statement, Zoom Phone experienced over 100 percent year-on-year growth worldwide during the 2023 fiscal year, exceeding 5.5 million seats in the fourth quarter of that year.
Zoom has collaborated with several international telecommunications providers and currently provides phone numbers and calling plans in 47 countries and territories, all of which come packaged with the cloud PBX service.
