40 lakh Women in Rajasthan to receive Free Smartphones on Raksha Bandhan

New Delhi: On Friday, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced that 40 lakh women in Rajasthan will receive free smartphones with a three-year internet pack on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, which will be celebrated at the end of August.

During his visit to the price relief camp in Rawatsar town of Hanumangarh, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced that under the Chiranjeevi scheme, all women have been made the head of the family, with 1.35 crore women already appointed as such.

As a part of the scheme, these women will receive a smartphone along with three years of free internet connectivity.

The Chief Minister declared that 40 lakh smartphones will be distributed to women in Rajasthan on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

It was previously announced in his 2022 budget speech that smartphones with three years of internet access would be given to women who are heads of Chiranjeevi families.

Additionally, the Mukhyamantri Digital Seva Yojana aimed to distribute smartphones to about 1.35 crore women.

However, the program could not be implemented due to the inability to procure such a large number of phones in a timely manner.

Earlier this year, the government stated in the assembly that they have allocated a budget for the distribution of smartphones.

As per government records, as of January 30th, 1,37,82,951 families have been registered under the Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme, which offers a yearly medical coverage of up to Rs 25 lakh per family.
