Blinkit Services in Delhi-NCR affected by Delivery Partners Strike

NEW DELHI: “Blinkit, the Zomato-owned quick commerce platform that offers instant online delivery services, is experiencing significant disruptions as hundreds of its delivery partners are on strike, demanding changes to their pay structure.

Reports indicate that the ongoing strike by the delivery partners has caused disruptions to Blinkit’s services in the national capital region.”

According to reports, customers in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Greater Noida have been facing difficulties in placing their online grocery delivery orders for the past 3-4 days.

Many Blinkit customers took to Twitter and other social media platforms to share their experiences of seeing a message that read: “Sorry for the inconvenience.

Your store is under maintenance” as they attempted to place their orders online using the Blinkit app in certain areas of the national capital.

Hundreds Of Dark Stores Closed

There have been reports indicating that over half of the 200 dark stores operated by Blinkit, the quick commerce platform owned by Zomato, in these areas have been temporarily closed.

It has been mentioned that a larger number of these stores are anticipated to go offline in the upcoming days due to the ongoing strike by the delivery partners.

Delivery Partners Demand Better Pay Structure

Recently, Blinkit implemented a new pay structure for its delivery partners starting from Monday midnight.

Under this new system, delivery partners are required to book time slots and fulfill assigned targets.

The Zomato-owned company stated that the delivery partners would be compensated on a per-kilometer basis.

The company did not provide a detailed breakdown of the new pay structure and mentioned that efforts are being made to restore normal operations for all impacted stores.

However, the delivery partners have rejected this move, stating that it would result in a reduction in their earnings.

The delivery partners, justifying their strike, stated that previously they were paid Rs 50 for each parcel delivered, but it was later reduced to Rs 25.

Now, they claim that the amount has been further reduced to Rs 15, which they consider to be significantly low considering the 12-hour work shifts.

Many delivery partners believe that the new pay structure would impose a financial burden on them.

Blinkit had previously announced its intention to discontinue delivery services in areas where its 10-minute service delivery cannot be achieved.

The company stated that its delivery services would only be available in customer locations where deliveries can be made within a 10-minute timeframe.
