As the summer season is upon us, many people may be planning to purchase a new air conditioner.
However, they may be concerned about what to do with their old AC unit since selling it would not fetch much value.
To address this, the leading e-commerce company Flipkart has launched an exchange program for used air conditioners.
With this initiative, customers can easily exchange their old AC units on the Flipkart platform.
This program is applicable to all types of air conditioners, regardless of where they were originally purchased.
Flipkart has announced that this service will be available in all serviceable pin codes across the country.
Flipkart’s AC Exchange Programme
- In order to avail exchange value, customers will have to provide the details of the old AC.
- Old AC will be uninstalled free of cost (for a limited period) by the trained technician
- The delivery agent will in turn verify the uninstalled unit at the doorstep
- If all goes well and checks match, the new AC will be delivered and the old AC will be picked up.
Flipkart Aims to Contribute to Circular Economy
Adarsh Menon, SVP and Head of New Businesses at Flipkart, commented on the launch of the new AC exchange program and the challenges of navigating the growing yet unorganized market for old ACs.
He stated that “The market for reselling air conditioners has been growing rapidly over the years, but it has remained largely unorganized and difficult to navigate.”
He further added that the AC Exchange Program on Flipkart aims to streamline this process by providing a comprehensive solution that addresses issues such as uninstalling old AC units.
The program is designed to offer customers the best value for their products, as well as convenience and easy discoverability.
At Flipkart Group, their focus is on continuously developing innovative tech-enabled solutions that promote reusability and responsible recycling, which are essential for building a sustainable economy.
As the usage of air conditioners in the country continues to grow, there is a significant amount of scrap being generated.
The careless disposal of old AC units leads to waste that contaminates soil, water, and air.
As a result, the government is urging electronics manufacturers to prioritize the collection and recycling of end-of-cycle electronics.
To support a circular economy and promote responsible disposal of the generated scrap, Flipkart has partnered with certified e-waste recycling companies for this initiative.
Through this collaboration, the ecommerce giant aims to do its part in ensuring safe and responsible recycling practices.
