New Delhi: Apple is working on adding touch screens to its Mac computers.
This move will break with the company’s long-standing conservatism policy and adopt an approach that the company’s co-founder Steve Jobs once called terrible.
According to information, Apple’s engineers are actively Working on this project.
This suggests that Apple is considering making a touch-screen Mac for the first time.
At present, its launch has yet to be finalized. In such a situation, the company’s plans can change at any time.
Regarding the touch screen, the company has been arguing for more than a decade that the touch screen does not work well on laptops.
If someone wants a touch interface, then the iPad can be a better option. However, Apple has also been concerned that touch screens could reduce sales of Macs and iPads.
On the other hand, the company’s rival companies have increasingly added touch screens to their computers, which has increased the pressure on Apple to do so.
In recent years, the business of a Mac has increased significantly compared to the iPad, and the company wants to maintain it even further.
Touch-screen Mac may come in 2025
Based on current internal discussions, the company could launch its first touch-screen Mac in 2025 as a significant update to the MacBook Pro.
A representative for Cupertino-based Apple declined to comment. Meanwhile, Apple shares rose 2.1% to $133.49 on Wednesday.
Traditional laptop design
For the time being, Apple’s first touch-screen MacBook Pro may retain the traditional laptop design, including a standard trackpad and keyboard.
Still, the laptop’s screen will still support touch input, just like iPhone or iPad. Over time Apple may expand touch support to more of its Mac models.
The OLED display can be found
Apple is also planning to shift its display to Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) technology for the MacBook Pro.
The company currently uses liquid crystal displays (LCDs) on its Macs. Still, the iPhone and Apple Watch are already coming with OLED shows.
Those screens give better brightness and fantastic colours, and in the first half of 2024, the iPad Pro will also get an OLED screen.
In such a situation, if the company provides a touch-screen facility on Mac, it will significantly change.
