New Delhi :
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a goal to help two crore women in rural areas become financially stable, calling them “Lakhpati Didis.”
Uttar Pradesh is leading in achieving this goal, with the income of women in self-help groups increasing faster than in other states.
Currently, 10.45 lakh group members in UP earn over one lakh rupees annually.
The aim is to have 29.24 lakh Lakhpati Didis in UP within three years.
Deepa Ranjan, Director of UP State Rural Livelihood Mission, mentions efforts to boost income for rural women through self-help groups.
Currently, 10.45 lakh women in the state associated with groups earn more than one lakh rupees each year.
In UP, 1.20 crore families are part of 14.66 lakh self-help groups, contributing to their financial well-being.
Some women in these groups have annual business turnovers ranging from five to fifteen lakh rupees.
To enhance financial stability, the Central Government has introduced the Lakhpati Didi Scheme.
PM Narendra Modi mentioned this scheme on August 15, emphasizing its benefits for economically vulnerable women.
The scheme includes incentives to encourage regular savings among women.
