New 7-Seater SUVs Coming to India (Features & Specs)

The SUV/MPV market in India is poised to welcome several new and updated 7-seater vehicles, such as the next-generation Carnival and the all-new Hyundai Alcazar.

These three-row SUVs are particularly popular among large families due to their spacious interiors. Here are some new models to consider if you’re looking to buy a 7-seater SUV in India.

New Kia Carnival

Kia is set to launch the new Carnival in India during the festive season, with an expected starting price of around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom).

The global version of this MPV, which had its premiere last year, features several improvements over its predecessor.

It boasts a revised rear bumper, a larger tiger-nose grille, L-shaped headlights, and LED daytime running lights, and is available in three engine options.

In addition to cosmetic changes, the India-spec Carnival is likely to come with feature enhancements such as 12.3-inch twin curved infotainment and instrumentation screens. It is expected to retain the 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, delivering 200bhp and 400Nm.

Next-Gen Hyundai Alcazar

After extensive testing in both global and Indian markets, the updated Hyundai Alcazar is scheduled to hit showrooms in the festive season (September-October).

Originally planned for a mid-2024 release, the launch was postponed to clear existing inventory. Spy photos suggest significant design changes in line with the 2024 Creta, including a larger grille with a unique design.

Inside, it could feature dual 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment, along with fresh upholstery.

The Alcazar will continue to offer a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (158bhp/253Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine (114.4bhp/250Nm).

Kia EV9

Kia is expected to introduce the EV9 in India soon, although an official announcement is yet to be made.

This new SUV will likely be the largest and most expensive in the company’s portfolio, with an estimated price of around Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).

Features may include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a large sunroof, a heated steering wheel with four spokes, ambient lighting, regenerative braking with paddle shifters, and USB charging ports.

The EV9, based on Kia’s E-GMP platform, may come in two versions. The first (RWD) model could have a single 215bhp motor and a 76.1kWh battery, offering a driving range of 541 kilometres.

The second variant might feature a dual-motor configuration with a combined output of 380bhp. More details are expected to be revealed closer to the launch.

Jeep Meridian Facelift

The redesigned Jeep Meridian is anticipated to go on sale in India later this year. The new model will feature several cosmetic updates such as integrated DRLs in the headlights, a redesigned grille,

new front and rear bumpers, fresh alloy wheels, and a revised taillight. Additionally, there will be more exterior paint options compared to the current edition.

Powering the SUV will be the same 2-litre diesel engine paired with a six-speed manual and a nine-speed automatic torque converter unit.

Only the highest-end automatic versions are expected to offer the four-wheel drive (4WD) option. The biggest feature enhancement is likely to be the inclusion of ADAS.

The new model could come with a higher price tag than the existing version, which starts at Rs 33.77 lakh (ex-showroom).

MG Gloster Facelift

MG is preparing to launch the facelifted Gloster in India soon, as indicated by numerous spy pictures.

The updated SUV is expected to feature a large three-slat grille with a company logo, a cube-shaped split headlight design, redesigned alloy wheels, and reworked LED taillamps connected by a slim light bar.

It will likely include advanced comfort and convenience features such as a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated and powered front seats, and wireless smartphone connectivity.
